The moss Timmia bavarica still grows in Štramberk and near Kopřivnice (Czech Republic)

The distribution of the endangered moss Timmia bavarica in the Štramberk Karst and its surrounding areas (Moravia, Czech Republic) was studied between 2013 and 2024. The research confirmed the presence of historically known sites and led to the discovery of new locations on Kotouč hill near Štramberk. A significant new finding on Zámecký vrch hill, within the Štramberk Castle area, further expands our understanding of the moss distribution in the Štramberk Karst. Additionally, a site on Šostýn hill near Kopřivnice, located outside the Štramberk Karst, either represents a confirmation of the species’ presence from 1936 or marks a new occurrence in the region. Notably, both Zámecký vrch hill in Štramberk and Šostýn hill near Kopřivnice are newly confirmed locations for Timmia bavarica, both in Moravia and within the Czech Republic.
