Communities of epigeic beetles were studied during 2008-2010 on plantations of fast growing plant species for energetic purposes and in surrounding biotopes. The method of pitfall trapping was used for beetle sampling. Four plots of fast growing plants (Dactylis glomerata L., Arrhenatherum elatius (L.) J. Presl et C. Presl, Phalaris arundinacea L. and Helianthus tuberosus L.) and during 2009-2010 also surrounding lawn habitat were studied. Carabid beetles (Carabidae) and rove beetles (Staphylinidae) were used as bioindicators. 29 species and 205 individuals of family Staphylinidae and 40 species and 1,584 individuals of family Carabidae (69 species and 1,789 individuals in total) were found. The majority of the beetles were carabid beetles with the most abundant species - Poecilus cupreus (Linnaeus, 1758), Pseudophonus rufipes (De Geer, 1774), Calathus fuscipes (Goeze, 1777), Harpalus aeneus (Schrank, 1781), Nebria brevicollis (Fabricius, 1792) and Carabus scheidleri (Panzer, 1799). These species occurred in all plantations. Eurytopic species were more common than stenotopic in all habitats. The smallest value of index of human impact and so the biggest human impact was found in reed canary-grass. It is supposed that the communities of epigeic beetles in plantations of fast growing grass species were influenced by the surrounding biotope (lawn), microclimate inside the vegetation, edge effect and the weather during the period of experiment.
